Ecosia

Green-powered search engine launched

Did you know that every time you use one of the standard internet search engines like Google or Yahoo, your carbon footprint could be as big as leaving a light-bulb on for an hour? That’s because of the huge amount of electricity needed to power their servers. But thanks to Ecosia, the new eco-search engine launched to make the start of the Climate Conference in Copenhagen, you can rest assured that your searches are not only powered by green electricity, but that 80% of the revenue made from sponsored links are going to a WWF rainforest preservation project in Brazil. According to WWF: “an average internet user can protect about 2,000 metres of rainforest a year by using Ecosia” – that’s about 2 metres for every search you do.
